The role you're training for

This program trains one role from start to finish. Every phase builds a skill the role uses every day.

Target role
Lead Generation & Automation Specialist

Finding the right prospects, checking they're worth contacting, reaching out in a way that gets replies, and running the systems that turn replies into booked meetings. The tools: Apollo.io, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Clay, email finders and verifiers, cold outreach platforms, GoHighLevel and n8n, all with AI doing the heavy lifting.

Every business needs leads

Prospecting and outreach are the work agencies and sales teams hire for most. If you can deliver accurate lists and outreach that gets replies, there is always work.

It pays early

Lead list building is one of the fastest freelance skills to get paid for. You can take small paid jobs from around week 5.

AI makes you faster, not replaceable

AI can write a first line or summarise a website, but someone has to pick the right market, check the data, and run the system. That's you.

No degree, no coding, almost no cost

Every course here is free. Paid tools are used through free plans and free trials, timed so each trial lands in the phase that needs it.

Your practice client for the whole program Northline Growth (made up for practice): an agency that helps US home-services companies (roofing, HVAC, plumbing, restoration) get more booked jobs. Their ideal customer is the owner or general manager of a company with 5–50 employees. Every project in this program is built for Northline, so by the end you have a complete case study.

Your week

About 12–14 hours a week, which fits alongside a job or business. Consistency beats intensity: two focused hours a day will get you further than a weekend binge.

DAYTIMEWHAT YOU DO
Mon–Fri2 hrs15 min typing practice, then one learning loop: learn, rebuild, log. Pick a fixed time slot and protect it.
Saturday3–4 hrsBuild day: work on the week's project from start to finish. No new lessons.
Sunday30 minWeekly review on this page: tick tasks, rate your skills, fill in the check-in form. Every second Sunday, send your team lead a 5-minute Loom showing what you built.

The 12 weeks at a glance

How to learn alone

Your team lead checks in from time to time but won't be beside you, so you have to be your own teacher. This section is the method. Read it twice before you start, and come back whenever you feel lost.

The daily loop

Learn one thing

One lesson, 25 minutes max. Don't binge videos.

Rebuild it

Do it yourself straight away, in your own account. Watching is not learning.

Break it

Change one setting or filter on purpose and see what happens. That's how you learn the edges.

Explain it

Write 3–5 lines in your Learning Log, as if teaching a friend. If you can't explain it, redo step 2.

Save proof

A screenshot or short Loom goes into your Drive "Proof" folder. This becomes your portfolio.

Rules that keep you moving

  • Build twice as long as you watch. One hour of video means two hours of doing.
  • Official sources first. The tool's own academy and help docs, then YouTube.
  • Check the date. These tools change monthly. Prefer videos and posts less than 12 months old.
  • Protect your free credits. Free plans have monthly limits. Plan your searches before you spend credits.
  • Start trials on schedule. Each trial in this program has a planned start date so it lasts exactly as long as you need it.
  • Practise on yourself. Never send practice messages or automations to real people. Use your own test inboxes and numbers.

How to research anything

  • "exact phrase" finds the exact error message.
  • site:linkedin.com/in "operations manager" roofing Texas finds profiles through Google.
  • after:2026-01-01 hides old answers.
  • Add reddit to a search for real users' experiences.
  • On YouTube: Filters → Upload date → This year.
  • When AI gives an answer, ask for sources, then open them. Don't trust anything two sources don't agree on.
  • Keep a "swipe file" doc of good examples (cold emails, LinkedIn messages, list formats) to copy ideas from later.

When you're stuck: the 45-minute rule

Being stuck is normal, and it's where most learning happens. Sitting stuck for hours is not. Follow this ladder and stop at 45 minutes.

0–15 minRead the error word for word. Undo your last change. Check the tool's help docs for that feature.
15–30 minAsk AI using the "Get unstuck" prompt below, with a screenshot. Do exactly what it says, one step at a time.
30–45 minSearch the exact error with the research tricks above. Check the tool's community forum or Reddit.
45 minStop. Write what you tried in this week's check-in under "Where I got stuck", move on to another task, and come back tomorrow. Your team lead sees it when they check in.

How to grade yourself

Every phase ends with a list of skills. Rate each one honestly on this scale. Don't move to the next phase until every skill is at 3.

1

I've heard of it and know roughly what it does.

2

I can do it with a tutorial open next to me.

3

I can do it alone, from memory, with only the help docs.

4

I could do it for a paying client or teach it to someone.

The program

Eight phases plus an optional Claude track. Each phase has a goal, free resources, YouTube channels, weekly tasks, a proof task, a quiz and a self-rating. Tick tasks as you finish them. Dates follow the start date you set at the top.

Free trials and your dollar card

Some tools in this program (Sales Navigator, GoHighLevel, some outreach tools) ask for a card even for a free trial. Use a virtual dollar card that only you control, keep only a small amount on it, and cancel every trial before it charges you.

Set up your card (Phase 0)

  1. Open a Grey account in your own name and complete verification. Any reputable virtual dollar card in your name works too.
  2. Create a virtual USD card. Grey charges a one-time fee to create a card and a small fee each time you load it. Check the current fees in the app before you create it.
  3. Load only a few dollars. Some services place a small temporary hold to check the card. Only add more if you decide to pay for a tool.
  4. Never share your card details with anyone, including teammates, and never use someone else's card.

The trial routine

  1. Start each trial on the day the program says, not before.
  2. Log it in a "Trial tracker" sheet: tool, start date, trial length, cancel-by date (two days before it ends), cancelled yes or no.
  3. Put the cancel-by date in your calendar with a reminder.
  4. Cancel inside the tool's billing settings and screenshot the confirmation. Emptying or freezing the card is not the same as cancelling.
  5. One trial per person per tool. Opening extra accounts for repeat trials breaks the tools' terms and can get you banned.

Quizzes and readiness

Each phase from 1 to 6 ends with a quiz, and Phase 7 has a final exam that mixes questions from every phase. You need 80% to pass. Retake as often as you like: every attempt draws a new set of questions, and your team lead sees your results. When you've passed everything, ask for an onboarding review. Your team lead decides when you're ready.

Earn while you learn

You don't have to wait until week 12. These are the jobs beginners get paid for, in the order your skills unlock them.

From week 5

Lead list building

"Find me 200 verified contacts who match this description." The most common beginner job on Upwork, Fiverr and Contra. Usually priced per verified lead or per list.

From week 6

Lead research & qualification

Scoring and tiering a client's existing list, researching top accounts, and writing a note on why each one fits.

From week 8

Outreach support

Writing sequences, personalising first lines, managing replies and booking meetings. Often paid as a base fee plus a bonus per booked meeting.

How to land and deliver the first jobs

  1. Offer a free 10-lead sample so the client sees the quality before paying.
  2. Agree in writing: exact criteria, number of leads, columns, accuracy promise, deadline.
  3. Verify every email. One bad list costs you the client.
  4. Deliver early with a short Loom explaining your method.
  5. Ask for a review. After three good reviews, raise your price.

Rules for outside work

  • Read each data tool's terms. Some restrict reselling data you export from them, especially on free plans.
  • Never run cold email for a client from their main domain or your personal Gmail (Phase 4 explains why).
  • If you've already joined a team, check with your team lead before taking outside clients.

Proposal opener you can adapt

Hi [name], I build verified lead lists of decision makers for [industry] teams. Every contact comes with a verified email, LinkedIn URL and the source it came from. Before you commit, I can send you a free sample of 10 leads that match your criteria, so you can check the quality yourself. Who is your ideal customer?

Weekly check-in

Every Sunday, fill this in. It takes 10 minutes, and it's how your team lead keeps track of you without needing a meeting.

Feedback for you

When your team lead reviews your check-ins, their feedback shows up here.

Resource library

Every course is free. Tools are used on free plans or free trials. Plan limits and trial lengths change often, so check the tool's pricing page when you sign up. If a link moves, search the course name on the provider's site.
